In today’s rapidly evolving workplace, artificial intelligence is no longer a distant concept—it’s a tool that’s becoming essential to stay competitive. Like many, I once had reservations about AI, especially generative AI like ChatGPT. However, I chose to lead with curiosity rather than fear, and it has transformed my approach to learning and leadership.
The decision to embrace AI wasn’t taken lightly. I started by educating myself, attending conferences, webinars, and completing self-directed courses. Through these efforts, I learned how AI, when properly understood, can become an asset rather than a threat. One of my key discoveries was the power of effective prompting in using tools like ChatGPT. Many find AI ineffective simply because they don’t know how to prompt it properly. I’ve now incorporated AI into my daily work, constantly learning and refining my approach through hands-on experimentation and insights from colleagues and industry peer.
Among the most useful things I have learned are:
- Ask ChatGPT for more specific details to improve the quality of its responses. E.g. inserting “what additional information do you need from me?” at the end of the prompt.
- Ask how it arrived at a particular outcome, which helps me understand the AI’s reasoning. E.g “How did you arrive at this answer?” if you are curious or unhappy about the response.
By embracing this learning journey, I’ve realized that AI doesn’t have to be something to shy away from—it can be a powerful tool for growth and innovation in the workplace.
