
I have been reading the book Immunity to Change: How to Overcome It and Unlock the Potential in Yourself and Your Organization. I am currently in the section on diagnosing and overcoming immunities in yourself and your organization.
In the chapter about unlocking potential the authors talk about successful change as the product of simultaneously working on mindset and behaviours. One of the salient quotes for me is “reflection without action is as unproductive as action without reflection.”
On reflecting, I concur that effective and sustainable change requires both thinking and action. The challenge is gaining clarity on our inclination towards one versus the other, instead of both. To put it another way, it is being mindful of the impact of both analysis paralysis and premature actions.
Are our goals being hindered by overthinking, inaction or thoughtless actions? I invite us to consider.
